Friday September 7th, Utah vs Utah Valley
Utah men's soccer really struggled to maintain possession against Utah Valley and after nearly 20 minutes without the ball, Utah Valley put one away against us. They held tight and scored another 2 goals to make it a 0-3 loss for the Utes. A tough loss as it is the first official league game of the season. It also ends the 5 year winning streak against Utah Valley. MVP of the match: Andoni Shortsleeve

Saturday September 8th, Utah vs Utah State Eastern
Men's soccer took on Utah State Eastern on Saturday and finished with a 1-0 victory. The Utes dominated possession and Spencer Randall was able to find the side netting after making a brilliant run up the right side. A solid performance all around for the Utes. MVP of the match: Spencer Randall

Friday September 14th, Utah vs BYU
Utah Men's Soccer fell to BYU over the weekend in a tough loss. The Utes struggled to maintain possession and were unorganized on defense. MVP of the match: Garrick Quackenbush

Saturday September 15th, Utah vs Utah State
The Utes also lost against Utah State although today Utah looked much better. Landon Carlson gave Utah the lead when he took the ball down the left flank and popped it past the keeper. Unfortunately the Utes could not sustain the lead despite a mostly strong defense. Props to both Utah Goalkeepers this weekend who played quite well despite the scorelines. Also props to John Goodman who played half the BYU game and all of the Utah State game while quite sick. MVP of the match: John Goodman

Friday September 21st, Utah vs Boise State
The University of Utah men's soccer team beat Boise State in a 3-1 victory on Friday. Boise State struck first with an own goal off of Travis. A few minutes later Utah scored an own goal off of the Boise State defender's head after Travis Hill sent a long ball into their box. Charlie Crane scored his first goal for the Utes after calmly bringing the ball down, cutting to his left and shooting the ball to the far post. Josh Clifton also scored his first when he deflected a pass from the Boise State defender into the goal. MVP of the match: Charlie Crane

Saturday September 22nd, Utah vs Weber
The Utes unfortunately fell to Weber State in a thrilling Saturday evening game. After Weber struck first, the Utes won a penalty kick which Tyler Fordham converted. In the second half, the Utes relentlessly attacked and were very unlucky to not put a few away. In the last 5 minutes, Weber scored a scrappy goal and the game ended in a 1-2 defeat for the Utes. MVP of the match: Tyler Fordham

San Diego Cup
Utah soccer played in the annual San Diego Aztec Cup tournament over the weekend and ended their tournament 1-1-1. Their first game against Gonzaga was an exciting 4-5 loss for the Utes with unfortunate individual errors from several Ute players. The Utes were down 3-5 and scored a late goal for a last minute rally but unfortunately couldn't tie up the scoreline. The second game against Grand Canyon University was a close 2-1 victory after the Utes earned a PK in the last minute of the match. Cheers to Andoni Shortsleeve who faced 2 PKs in the second half of which he saved one. The final match against San Diego University was played at their home field. The Utes went up 1-0 after Josh Clifton chipped the keeper on a wonderful 1 touch finish. Despite the Utes receiving a red card early in the second half, they outran and outplayed their opponent and were unlucky to come away with just a tie. Special thanks to Rob Karas and Teresa Kehl for helping to make the trip possible. MVP of the tournament: Rob Karas and Teresa Kehl

Friday October 5th
The Utes played against BYU on Friday October 5th and came away with a 0-2 loss, the closest scoreline of any team against BYU all season. The Utes held strong in defense in the first half, only giving up one goal. The second goal came late in the second half after an unfortunate deflection chipped the Utah goalkeeper. Despite the loss, the Utes played very well against the defending national champions. Big shout out to AJ Snell for making 18 saves during the match!
MVP of the match: AJ Snell

Friday October 19th
Utah men's soccer took on UVU at home on Friday. The Utes trailed UVU 1-2 and were dominating the field in the last 20 minutes. In the closing minutes of the match, Chris Herrscher scored a header off of a Utes corner kick, bringing the score to 2-2
MVP of the match: Chris Herrscher

Saturday October 20th
The Utes played BYU-Idaho on Saturday in Rexburg and came away with a 2-4 loss. Congrats to Chris Herrscher, the Utes center back, for scoring his second header in two games. Abdoul scored the second goal after one-timing a floating ball in the box into the bottom left corner. With 10 minutes left, the Utes changed formation to play 3 in the back, giving us an extra attacking player. Great effort by John Goodman when he successfully defended a 2 on 1 with an open net.
MVP of the match: Abdoulaye Massaly

Saturday October 27th
Utah men's soccer traveled to SUU on Saturday for their last match of the season. The Utes dominated the field despite having only 2 available substitutes. Congratulations to Tyler Fordham for putting away 2 goals and congratulations to goalkeeper AJ Snell for scoring on his first field match with the Utes. Overall a great way to end the season. The Utes dedicated the match in honor of Lauren McCluskey by wearing the winged foot logo on their right shoulder
